Filled my 3rd out of 4 tags, with a month left to put one more tasty deer in the freezer; then I can get back to carrying my camera instead of my rifle.
For the first time in several years, one of my cameras was stolen.
Set a camera here. A couple major trails and a lot of secondary trails cross through this spot.

I’m ggholt@gci.net Looks like you know what you are doing. Seems the deer aren’t as plentiful this year but that may be me too. Looks like you take deer in old growth. I see them in clear cuts sometimes…too difficult to get them out so I’m thinking of hunting mostly muskegs or edges away from serious downfall and blow down. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I like getting off the main roads on to walking blocked logging roads, old growth fingers and muskegs. I’m good for a couple miles in and a couple miles back. Seems I should be able to get past the road hunters that way, even though I’m not quite the long hunter I used to be.

Muskegs are good place to call deer out of the brush and or timber where they live, so set up on the edge and call patiently, deer are on the move all day if they don’t have a date so you don’t really have to move since they are moving though boredom can make it necessary (I’m not real patient). If you’re still hunting creeping through the cover is usually better than muskegs even though you can’t see vary far, deer eat green stuff and the ‘skags are all brown. blow your call real soft as you move through the brush and deer will often hold until your within sight even if thats only 20 ft away.

If you scare one you can’t see just freeze and call softly, a lot of times the just go a short ways because you got to close but they don’t know what you are and might circle down wind, also pause every few steps and look everywhere including behind you, they will often sneak in to sniff your trail if they can’t see what is rustling through the brush.
