Bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee March 9-25
My brother and I have been fishing Okeechobee for around 20 years now, we always stay at Rolland Martins, and rent a boat from Jolly Rogers. We spent most of our time during our 17 day bass fishing marathon in a community hole. Our first week most of the fish we found were in the cattails close to the hard line, the thicker the jungle the better the fishing as far as our efforts went.

As our trip progressed and the Lake continued to drop the fished either moved out or new fish moved into the Kissimmee Grass farther out from the cattails. Most of our fish came punching the thickest clumps of grass with craws and creatures but my biggest, a 7.12 came on a spinnerbait in the middle of the boat path, and my brother’s 8.4 on a swimjig in more open grass. Got some big ones on a Buzzbait, Big EZ (couldn’t get bit buzzing it on the surface but fishing it really slow was fairly effective) , Frog, and a heavy flipping jig too.
We ended up with around 40 bass 5 pounds or better including a dozen 7s and a pair of 8s. Our last 2 days were the best, Monday the 24th was our best day, it started really slow, we had only 5 dinks at 2:00 then starting with a 7 on a buzzbait they went totally crazy or a new wave of fish moved in and we ended up with three 7s and two 6s for our top Five. Tuesday was good all day and we had four 5s and a 4 at around 6:00 then as a front hit and the wind started blowing the fish went crazy again and we got a 7, two 6s and two fives to end our trip on. Can’t wait to get back. . . next year.
